From that excellent Leacock illustrated book. You can stretch that home theme (at least I think) to include places of work. After all how many hours did mill workers spend at their work site in the 19th century. There was also the concept of the company town. What I did here in this slide show was to break up the content of the scanned page into separate parts. As long as you scan at a high enough dpi (I used 200) you can retain the sharpness of the text. Another technique I use is to have the kids try to illustrate the text by finding images of key vocabulary words. This is easy enough to do with a google image search.
Flash: I'm leaving school today and an old guy comes up to me asking for directions and I wind up talking to him for an hour, a lot of it captured on tape. Look for it on a future podcast.

Do you really like that Places In Time book so much or do like writing Leacock?
