Old PS 19
From the 1896 Tribune. Mr. Hess was the principal of PS19 at the time. View the slide show and learn of the predominance of saloons in the area and the industrious Italian bootblack student. In the 1860's Abraham Lincoln made a speech at PS 19 during his presidential campaign. There used to be a plaque in the old building commemorating that event. I wonder where that plaque is now? The current site is occupied by a YMHA.
