Baruch Charney Vladeck
While walking to the Apple Store in Soho today I saw a poster for Andrew Vladeck. He is to appear at the Bowery Ballroom on August 13th. Years ago while doing research on the namesake of the Vladeck Projects I came across Andrew's nascent web site. His career seems to be taking off now. In any case I wrote to Andrew asking if he was related to Baruch and in fact he was the famous labor leader's great grandson. Andrew's father is a prominent Health Supervisor who was in the Clinton Administration. He also went to Stuyvesant, class of 1966? Bruce dissed me, a la Bernie Lemonick (an early July posting). My father was among the first group of people who moved into the Vladeck Projects in 1940. It was a real step up in living conditions from tenements. Former Corlear's JHS principal Henry Sapossnek lived in Vladeck, so did the Skibicki family. The vivacious CSD1 administrative secretary Lucy Santiago is a current long time resident. Here's a document with more information on Baruch Charney Vladeck.
