The House I Live In: Country of Origin-Latin America

Here's a way to combine the home theme, hispanic heritage month (sept. 15-oct 15) and the great sport of baseball. You can also do a personal narrative for the September TC literacy on baseball (or some other sport you play). Chevrolet is co-sponsoring the selection of the Latino Legends' Team (mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/fan_forum/latino_legends/ballot.jsp). Kids can do research on the players, taking data from the mlb site and select others and write a story about why they chose a player for a certain position-perhaps the choice might coincide with their own home country of origin. Here's a slide show of the latin catcher nominees. I would say Ivan Rodriguez is the best-that's if if he didn't use steroids. You can also do some math/tech integration by building comparative excel spreadsheets of the different players using their lifetime startistics. I also have short quicktime movies of the players wacked from the chevy site.
