I knew he lived in Brooklyn and when I checked both the 1920 and 1930 census I found him living at this address. The ages match as well as listing is middle initial of E.
David- I just checked Ancestry.com. Eddie is listed as the "Head" of the household at this address in 1920. He was 6 at the time. It is a different Eddie Sauter.
Eddie grew up in Nyack, though he was BORN in Brooklyn. Additionally, many people don't know, but Eddie was adopted. He was ORIGINALLY Edward Meyer.
As for the Eddie that's the head of the family in 1920 that's explained by the fact that father and son had the same name. However, if he grew up in Nyack then I guess this is a different Eddie Sauter.
David- I also see that there was an Eddie A Sauter around the same age in that Brooklyn household. However, Eddie's middle name was Ernest, he's on the census in the Sauter household in Nyack (actually Clarkstown I believe) as "Eddie Myers" in the 1925 census. So even though he was living with the Sauters (his adoptive parents), he kept the name "Myers" until 1925 at least, so any mention of the name "Sauter" prior to that is not the same Eddie Sauter. Additionally, in his oral jazz history interview, Eddie stated he never lived in NYC.
The picture above is a screen shot of my lower east side map from my google map "collection." It can be made fully functional but it overwhelms the column. I learned about mapchannels from digital urban. The free site also gives you the option to create a link to a full size version of a google map.

David-
How did you find out that Sauter lived at this address? I'd be curious to know. Thanks!
