However, Eddie's middle name was Ernest, he's on the census in the Sauter household in Nyack (actually Clarkstown I believe) as "Eddie Myers" in the 1925 census. So even though he was living with the Sauters (his adoptive parents), he kept the name "Myers" until 1925 at least, so any mention of the name "Sauter" prior to that is not the same Eddie Sauter. Additionally, in his oral jazz history interview, Eddie stated he never lived in NYC.beebopalexhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00177119746385266870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14214820.post-66390051242558777362013-01-27T23:33:35.662-05:002013-01-27T23:33:35.662-05:00As for the Eddie that's the head of the family...As for the Eddie that's the head of the family in 1920 that's explained by the fact that father and son had the same name. Joseph J. Diamond, was killed in action at Guadal Canal during WW11.
After the war the veterans got together and joined different posts throughout Brooklyn. They wanted their own post so they applied for a charter from the American Legion. They met the qualifications and were granted the charter.
All the neighborhood veterans wanted to honor my uncle and Jack Davern who was also killed in combat. They originally were going to name the post the "Diamond-Davern Post" but the name was too long. They decided on the Joseph J. Diamond Post because he was the first one killed. The post was located above my grandfather's bar, Diamond's Cafe, on 9th Street and 7th Avenue in Brooklyn. After a few years they got enough money and bought a vacant synogogue that had been closed for a while a block away. As of 1982 the Post was still there. Every year they had a parade and an annual mass on the anniversary when the men were killed.
After doing some research I had found that the Post no longer exists and it is a synogogue again.
Joan Diamond Joan Diamondnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14214820.post-6051579685140867002012-11-07T11:06:58.880-05:002012-11-07T11:06:58.880-05:00I have lived in Baltimore for 20 years and it does...I have lived in Baltimore for 20 years and it does suck. I hate DC from the depths of my soul for all the lack of personality, overpriced living and piss poor attitudes of every single inhabitant that I have ever met there but still I can appreciate the architecture and the history. That being said, Orioles fans are die-hard and I know alot of guys who could hold extremely intelligible conversations (myself included). Did you forget we house Johns Hopkins in our little city, some of the brightest medical minds in the world? Local pizza? Michaels on Eastern Avenue in Highlandtown just east of Fells point, or I could give you fifty others if you ever want to get out of the Harbor and experience the rest of the city. In any case I could guide all day, I am a Baltimore local since birth and even though I am moving out west myself in a few years I will always hold a special place in my heart for this city, and if you are a true traveller you can always walk away with something special about each place you visit. There is so much hate in this feed, so much ignorance. I can say this because I have experienced everything this place has had to offer. I grew up in Montgomery county, went to high school in DC (spent my weekends there, have a father in Frederick, and when to two years of college in Baltimore. This place is downright evil. I have been working for 6 months, just so I can leave. I cannot stress enough how bad it is here. The weather is schizophrenic; meaning one day it will be 100 degrees, the next there will be a blizzard (mild hyperbole). The place is hideous. The sprawl is atrocious; almost impossible to escape people and traffic. Ignorant, arrogant, stubborn, and BORING people who do not listen at all. I have met wonderful people here, but I could meet wonderful people in hell, which I would like better. The food is also overpriced and its hard as hell to get decent, organic, local foods. The roads are pure shit. Its like a nightmare every time I get on the road. First off, nothing is convenient. Second, the roads were meant for 1/10 as many people. You cannot enjoy driving due to the constant threat of a speed camera, red light camera, or police officer (which are not your friends). Customer service, I dont even know what that is! Sometimes I cry because I hate this place so much. I am in the process of moving to San Francisco, never ever to return. PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE. IF YOU DO YOU WILL BE FUCKED.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14214820.post-52635410510621841352012-07-15T23:34:08.511-04:002012-07-15T23:34:08.511-04:00If you ever get a chance and want to spin some Fra...If you ever get a chance and want to spin some Frank Sinatra, Lena Horne, Mel Torme, big band or anything from the 40s, 50s give this room a try http://turntable.fm/the_make_believe_ballroom I am trying to establish it as a jazz room without limitations.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14214820.post-14727692527289550222012-05-25T18:14:25.906-04:002012-05-25T18:14:25.906-04:00How far was the bar BOB from Midnight Rose candy s...How far was the bar BOB from Midnight Rose candy store . I was thrilled to be present at what I thought was the First Randall's island Jazz Festivl in 1959. I was visiting a family in New Jersey when I learned of the event and got a ticket up in the stands--my first one of a few festivals. For all these years I thought of that time but never took the time to research this subject until I joined Wikipedia. So this morning I am finally able to get more info on these momentous events.
