Te...Change is exactly what NYC schools do not need. Teachers are constantly bombarded with some bureaucrat "wisdom" that causes the re-arrangement of routines, systems and even classroom set up that the teacher has diligently put in place for the best education that can be given in this situation. People who themselves are losing at even the lowest level of providing for their own children and grand-children do not need to be giving direction to energetic, young, committed, recently trained or experienced, wise, knowledgable teachers. Politicians and bureacrats who can't even keep their own lives free of messes that ruin their own kids' lives have no right to tell any one else how to do things.
And testing is the opposite of the answer. This is not how kids learn. Let the teachers teach. Give them what they need to teach, not mandate intense workshops forcing yet another change on them.
Education is not the god that will fix a multitued of societal ills. Too much is expected of this institution. Be good to the brave teachers but look elsewhere for your answers.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
